Varshini Viswanath

Small class sizes. Individualised attention. Innumerable opportunities. These are chief reasons why Indian-born student Varshini Viswanath decided to further her dreams of becoming a lawyer at ANU College of Law. Just 10 minutes from her campus is the Australian Parliament and High Court of Australia, a powerful reminder to motivate any aspiring lawyer to step into their fullest potential.

“Studying at Australia’s national law school is quite a unique experience,” she says. “It’s exhilarating, inspiring, and rigorous.” Viswanath’s typical day consists of lectures, tutorials, and seminars, where she gets to apply her knowledge of the law methodically. She credits the excellent teaching of the educators at the College of Law for her academic development throughout her studies.

“I have had some excellent ANU College of Law educators through the years. They have not only supported me but pushed me out of my comfort zone,” Viswanath remarks. She particularly enjoyed Administrative Law, a branch of law that allowed her to dive deeper into governmental decisions and their consequences.

“I think one of the best reasons to come to ANU is the critical thinking skills and the related research skills that are fostered in every student. We are learning not only to apply the law but also to think about how it can be augmented and be change makers.”
