Nestled in the glorious Hertfordshire countryside, Aldenham School is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged three to 18. Since 1597, the school has had a long-standing history of providing pioneering holistic education, becoming one of the most sought-after private schools according to the Good Schools Guide, the number one UK trusted school guide.
Here, each child develops in a wide range of stimulating ways. The school provides excellent teaching in all core areas of the national curriculum, with offerings that go beyond – students can explore their full potential through sports, the arts, and various clubs and societies, turning knowledge into experience and experience into lifelong learning.
Students can tailor their (i)GCSEs and A Level subjects and choose from over 80 extracurricular activities, with everything from more academic pursuits like debating and astronomy, to more artistic explorations, like chamber choir and photography. The school is known for its multiple consecutive awards in football, such as the ISFA National Football Cup, the ESFA Elite Schools Football Cup, and the Hertfordshire County Cup.
Armed with a well-rounded education, graduates go on to become scientists, businesspeople, professional sportsmen and women, alongside actors and musicians. It’s common to see Aldenham graduates entering prestigious universities, conservatoires, art colleges and drama schools, with some even choosing to pursue professional sports. No matter your child’s interests, girls and boys here grow to their full potential.
“Aldenham has provided our son with a nurturing and stimulating environment that has allowed him to grow academically, socially, and personally. We are grateful for the opportunities the school has offered and would highly recommend it to other families seeking a well-rounded education for their children.”

A nurturing second home
Upon joining Aldenham, each student is assigned a House with a tutor and Housemaster/Housemistress. These are trained professionals dedicated to the progress and well-being of each student.
“Our Housemaster looks after us well and there is always something to be a part of,” says Louis, a student living in McGill’s House, one of the six senior Houses. “We have in-House movie nights, cook together, celebrate our different nationalities through themed evenings, or regularly visit the cinema to see the latest blockbuster movie. Every few weeks, we get to go out for a trip, which is such fun.”
Stories like Louis's are common here at Aldenham. Children benefit from access to the Safeguarding Team, Health Centre, Counsellor, and Chaplain — each playing a vital role in guiding students as they navigate the stressors of growing up and the pressures of school. All of this, alongside an extended family of peers from around the globe, creates a truly international boarding experience.

“Our daughter is attending Aldenham School. She tells us the teachers are considerate in class, and the experience has fully lived up to the image Mr. Pennycook, Head of Boarding, and Mrs. Sherman, Housemistress of Paull’s House, presented to us! Our daughter feels very comfortable, is gaining many new and valuable experiences, and is hopefully building friendships for life!”
